This an interesting read and raises a couple of questions. If you want to keep your business at home how do you determine the business is US based? If you never meet the person and your buying programming or support services the company can be anywhere in the world. Its not like you’re going to visit them in their office.
So since many companies are doing most of their business online one way is to directly ask where the company is located or at the very least do a bit of research. I would prefer to keep my business at home, i.e., in the US but then my pocket book says I should try and get the best deal. So what do you do?
I understand the motivation to save money, I understand the issue of getting the best value for your money. So what’s the answer?
How do US based companies, programmers compete? I have to compete personally with people who are willing to work for $10.00 dollars an hour as opposed to $50.00 dollars an hour.
Why would someone pay five times the rate they could get in India to an American? I distinguish myself through my education, my experience, and my quality service. I suspect other US based companies do the same.
