My day has been filled with researching, reading, and re-thinking my business, you know a short hiatus from real life.
OK, well for me the web is real life so I didn’t take any time off but the good thing is I’ve come across some real gems for information and connecting because what I realize, in my life I tend to have a clear buffer zone and am sheltered. You remember what it was like in college, you were always on the cutting edge of everything — pushing the limits. Then when you get out into the big world no one is interested in pushing the limits, they are interested in making money.
So often times you loose the edge, but in my case I just kept pushing the edge, hence my need to make lots of money. LOL
Well onto my thoughts for the day, I have come across a great couple sites, I’ve outlined some of them in posting before but I’ll add an important one here: http://www.sbtv.com
Then as I was viewing some of the short vignettes someone mentioned Faith Popcorn — well who couldn’t forget that, a futurist that Fortune 500 companies use to help them with trends. Well I remember I used to share my trends with people, but my audiences weren’t paying me — and they didn’t necessarily believe me either. LOL
For example, I remember early in the WWW days, I shared my car prediction with a used car salesman — I said, mark my words, in the near future the web will help you sell your cars and people will research them online and sometimes purchase them online too. Well, of course he had no vision, he couldn’t see this — this was before the internet was commercialized, I’m sure it was at least 12 years ago now.
So anyway, on with the story — I did a search on Faith Popcorn and found her predictions in a local AZ newspaper (http://www.azreporter.com/news/features/2006/faithpopcorn.shtml) so I thought it would be fun to comment about her 2006 predictions because I think she hits the mark most of the time but I have some funny stories to go along with her thoughts.
So here goes:
She predicts something called “Skin Deeper” where people are yearning for physical contact because so many people emotionally starved and lack physical contact. She suggests the fad of cuddling parties (yea saw something about this on a TLC program once I think) is one result and that businesses are going to bring in actors to offer hugs when you get off planes. Hmmm, I think she has a couple points, but I think shes gone a bit far on this one — however, I do know what she means because when I was a young single, pregnant woman I would go get massages just so I could have some physical contact. But when I had my child, my need for physical contact was filled because I nurtured my child. And when I need hugs now, then all I have to do is ask — besides isn’t that what families are for.
But along this line of thinking you know why personal sites have become so popular — provides a way for strangers to meet and have some physical contact.
I will write more later on her other predictions — but for now I’m gonna get some sleep.
Until next time —
